We just completed this amazing kitchen remodel that we are calling the “Fountain Hills Beauty”. Laura Casey was the outstanding designer on this project. Laura took the time to get to know them and their family, to really listen to what their vision was. She made all their wishes come true!
Below, Laura expresses the details of this adventure…..
This loving couple is living in a beautiful house at the top of a hill, with a beautiful view. The only problem was that you couldn’t see the view.
The house had ample space but low ceilings and lots of walls dividing the space. We removed ALL the walls between the kitchen, dining room and living areas. We also raised the ceiling in the kitchen area and the false ceiling near the fireplace. Now there is a clean, single vaulted ceiling that runs throughout the space, and all the areas have been relocated for proper function and style.
The kitchen grew to 2-3 times its original size and is now open, light and functional. In this Fountain Hills Beauty, we included roll-out trays, electrical and USB ports in the drawers, towel bars, a downdraft cooktop, microwave drawer, a multi-function sink, and even a HIDDEN doggie door is incorporated in the tall pantry! Marilyn wanted a beautiful “tabletop” that could accommodate her upholstered chairs and we created a reading nook where there used to be built in cabinets.
She also wanted to work with her existing wood floors but wanted tile added to the kitchen area. The fireplace got a sophisticated facelift by covering the old concrete hearth with polished travertine. And Marilyn found a marble linear mosaic that was installed from the hearth to the ceiling. A mantle that matched her dining room table was the finishing touch. Lighting was also extremely important to the homeowners, so we included hanging pendants, LED can lights, under-cabinet lighting, in-cabinet lighting, and floor electrical outlets for lamps in the living area.
Going Green
The homeowner was also concerned with air quality and materials used in the project. We used low VOC paints, “green” drywall and energy efficient windows and doors.
The end result is a beautiful, open and airy space that allows the views to pour in from the minute you open the front door. Jim and Marilyn have enjoyed spending time with children and grandchildren in their newly remodeled space.
